I think it depends on where in is israel you plan on hitchhiking. I have done it a lot and i fine it a great way of traveling . Some will say it is unsafe. Most religious young boys ("yeshiva boys" ) will tell you it's the only way of traveling. you can see a lot of them in intersections throughout the country, at least that’s how it was when I was there a year ago. Info/Tip:

IFAIK there is no law forbidding hitchhiking in Israel.There are laws regarding the spot you can use to hitchhike. It is illegal to stand on the road or at the shoulder (not just for hitchhiking). ON many intersections there are road station build for hitchhikers.

as for safety:The fact that many people do it Does not make it safe.
