Water is a bit of an issue in the southern part of the trail.
on most days you'll find quarries or plants nearby that will happy to aid in with fresh drinking water , however there are some days where you'll have to carry large amount of water (for two days) or "stash" bottles is in advance.
Personally, I would recommend "stashing".
There are many 'drivers for hire' that know the desert and willing to drive you to all of these places.
Tip: when you 'stash', dig a hole in the ground and berry the water (about 6 liter per person + 2 liters for cocking), mark the spot somehow and even take a picture (the place may look different at night time).
