Backpackers' pictures of the Israel Trail
This cross-Israel trail is a wonderful opportunity to meet friendly
people throughout the country and enjoy the warmth of Israeli
hospitality.
In BackpackingIsrael.com you will find tips and advice to help prepare for the INT, a long-distance trek on the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa.
You will get advice on the hike itself as well as tips that have never before been written. You will learnd about starting points of the hike, the trail marks, backpacking gear needed, recommended seasons and special events.
The idea of the INT was conceived by mr. Abraham Tamir, a journalist and a nature lover, and its route was marked by the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) in 1995. The trail marks are maintained on a monthly basis.
According to the SPNI estimates, thousands of hikers have already hiked along the INT, and about a thousand of them hiked it fully (takes about 1.5 months).
In the last 6 years the INT has become extremely popular among Israeli bakpackers and it started to become pupular among international travelers. Israeli hikers tend to hike it before or after having their backpacking trip abroad.
The INT goes through Jewish and Arab villages, passing near places of religious significance to Christians and Jews and it offers a tremendous way for you to journey in the Holy Land.
Close to the trail you can find Israel Hostels and budget accommodation spots.
General information
At the North of Israel: Kibbutz Dan, near the northern border of Israel .
At the South: Taba, on the Egypt border.
The Israel Trail goes through the Sea of Galilee, Nazareth, Haifa, Netanya, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and the Negev, the Israeli Desert.

The INT is marked with three colors : Orange, Blue, and White (see the above picture).
The upper color of the three marks the general orientation:
Following the INT signs where the Orange strip is up will eventually lead you south.
Following INT signs where the White strip is up will eventually lead you north.
Recommended Seasons
There are two seasons for hiking the trail: September to November and March to May.
The latter (from March) is the end of the winter and the north and center of the country are green and there is a beautiful bloom all over the country, including the desert.
