Backpacking Israel is inviting you to walk with a backpack in the footsteps of Jesus, to hike in the Jesus Trail!

By walking in the footsteps of Jesus, hikers can better understand the spirit and the message of Jesus.

This pilgrim trail in Israel is a 65 kilometer route in the Galilee region of the Holy Land, which allows pilgrims to walk where Jesus walked, by connecting well-known sites from Jesus' life and ministry. 

The Jesus Trail was designed by two experienced international hikers - Maoz Inon and David Landis, in the tradition of pilgrimage hiking trails around the world. Pilgrimage trails in different countries are hiked today by thousands of people every year. 


The Jesus Trail begins in Nazareth, the childhood home of Jesus. The trail leads to the Sea of Galilee by way of Zippori, Cana, the Horns of Hattin, and Arbel Cliffs.

Around the Sea of Galilee, the trail connects Tabgha, the church of the Primacy of St. Peter, Capernaum, the Mount of Beatitudes, and Tiberias. The Jesus trail returns to Nazareth by way of the Jordan River, Mount Tabor, and Mount Precipice.

Budget accommodation and cheap food are available along the Jesus Trail. 

The Jesus Trail can be hiked independently by downloading GPS coordinates from the Jesus Trail Website or it can be hiked with tour guides and groups.
